Introduction

Times of India Scholarship Exam for Students from Class X to Class XII 2019. The Times of India first introduced a programme based on reading that led to scholarships and prizes for meritorious students.

 

The Times Scholars 2019 programme, is one of the country’s finest scholarship initiatives. It seeks to equip students with these skills and, at the same time, reward them in the process.

 

The Times Scholars programme is an endeavour to encourage school students of classes X to XII to develop a reading habit that helps them develop a holistic understanding of our society, the environment, and an informed worldview, enabling them to become good citizens and write a better future for themselves.

Steps to fill-Up in Online Application Process:

 

 

  • Click on 'Register Now' on the Home Page.

 

  • Now Enter 'Mobile Number' get OTP & Verify it for Registration.

 

  • Fill in your details in the application form and submit.

 

  • The programme is free for all candidates. There is no registration fee.

 

  • Fill the required details to complete your enrollment, get access to Daily Practice Tests.

 

  • After Successful Registration, Save the form & press the Print button to get a printout.

 

  • It is not possible to modify the data after Save & Print.

 

  • Take two copies of the printout of your online application.

 

  • Preserve the copy of the online application for future reference.

Times Scholars 2019 Exam Pattern

During the Reading Phase
  • 6 practice tests will be conducted in the course of the reading phase of the programme.

 

  • On 2 occasions, candidates will be asked to summarize stories and upload/ send their summaries in a PowerPoint format.

 

  • The dates and timing of these tests and presentations will be communicated in due course.

 

  • Each practice test and presentation carry 1 mark for PARTICIPATION.

 

  • This mark will be counted as part of the cumulative score calculated after the final examination.

 

  • Missing either a practice test or a presentation deadline will mean that 1 mark is forfeited.

 

  • Thus, participation in all the practice tests and presentations will give the candidate 8 marks.

 

  • Candidates who miss taking part in either a practice test or a presentation are still eligible to appear in the final examination.

 

  • The practice tests and presentation modules will be entirely online.
Final Examination
  • Candidates will be divided into different slots for the final examination, which will be entirely online.

 

  • The date and time of the slot will be communicated to the candidates later.

 

  • The final examination will assume that candidates have read and internalized the 'Times Scholars' stories appearing in TOI in the preceding 50 days.

 

  • The final examination will involve going through 11 TOI stories, each of which will have 6 questions linked to it i.e. a total of 66 questions – to be answered in 60 minutes.

 

  • Each question will carry 2 marks i.e. a total of 132 marks for the exam.

Exam Result Date

Times Scholars Results 2019 will be available on the Times Scholars official website on 15 February 2020.

Note: You will be individually informed if you are among the winners. The website will carry the list of winners. The newspaper will also announce the date of the winners being decided.

Procedure to check the Result

Step 1: Visit Times Scholars Official Website.

 

Step 2: candidate should Navigate towards the Result (List of Selected Candidates) tab.

 

Step 3: Enter their Application Number/ Hall Ticket Number, date of birth and Log In.

 

Step 4: Upon Successful Login, the online Score-Card for Times Scholars Results 2019 will appear on the screen.

 

Step 5: Download it for further use.

Times Scholars 2019 Selection Process

Times Scholars Scholarship Exam 2019 is conducted in the following Steps. Step by step Selection Process is explained in detail below.
Registration
  •  As a first step, candidates need to register online for the programme.
Reading Phase
  • Beginning from 25 October 2019, The Times of India newspaper will carry ONE article each day, in its print version, across a range of fields such as current affairs, science & technology, sports, politics, social issues, education, global developments etc. over a span of 50 days.

 

  • These articles will provide multi-dimensional perspectives to help students get a deeper understanding of various interesting subjects.

 

  • The articles will have a label reading TIMES SCHOLARS
Practice Tests and Presentations
  • Weekly practice tests will be conducted online, with questions based on the article.

 

  • Twice during the programme, candidates will be asked to summarize articles and share their view in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, which they can upload on the site.

 

  • Each practice test will comprise 3 stories, each with 6 questions, to be answered in 15 minutes.
Final Examination
  • During 21 December 2019 to 23 December 2019, there would be an online test followed by an interview to assess the students’ understanding & perspective.

 

  • The test will comprise 11 stories, each with 6 questions, to be answered in 60 minutes.
First Shortlist and Interviews
  • The First Shortlist of the programme will be decided basis the cumulative score i.e. participation marks in the practice tests and presentations + marks achieved in the final examination.

 

  • The best performers, in terms of the cumulative score, will need to appear for an interview in person.
Winners and Felicitation
  • For each of the two levels (as mentioned in the Eligibility criteria mentioned earlier), 100 winners will be chosen as winners.

 

  • The selected number will be invited to a felicitation ceremony whose details will be communicated later.

Cumulative Score
  • Cumulative Score = Participation marks earned for the Practice tests and presentation modules + the marks achieved in the final examination.

 

  • In case of a tie in the scores, the time taken to complete the final examination will also be used for evaluation, with the candidates who take the least time making it to the shortlist.
Interviews
  • The cumulative score will be used to decide the First Shortlist for the interviews.

 

  • The interviews will be the final phase of evaluation, the winners of which will be announced as the Times Scholars for 2019.

What is the last date of registration? The last date of registration is on 23 October 2019.
Will I get a confirmation email/ SMS? Yes, post-registration, a detailed email will reach your registered mailbox.
Can I change my details after registering? No, since your email ID will become your user name.
Do I need to upload any documents? No document is needed.
Whose mobile number and email id will programme-related be sent to?

For mobile-related communications, the mobile number of the parent/ guardian will be used.

I have two children in the eligible class bracket. Can both of them register via the same mobile number? Yes, a maximum of two candidates can be registered using the same mobile number.
My city/ town does not appear in the list of cities in the form. How can I register? Please select the nearest town or district but do be sure to put in the correct pin code.

Does every single day’s article need to be read as part of the programme? Yes, it is advisable to read each article as the question in the practice tests and final examination can be based on any day's article.
How do I know which article in a day’s edition of TOI is part of the Times Scholars programme content? The article will carry TIMES SCHOLARS text, in a red band.
Is there a specific page where the Times Scholars article will appear? No specific page – you will need to look through the paper to find the article with TIMES SCHOLARS written in the manner described above.
Will there be days on which no article will appear on Times Scholars in TOI? No Times Scholars article will appear on October 28th and 29th across all editions of TOI due to the Diwali break.

How many practice tests will need to be done? There will be 6 practice tests during the reading phase.
How many marks can I get in a practice test?
  • On participation in a practice test, you get 1 mark. This mark will be added to your cumulative score.

 

  • You can also score marks out of 18 within a test. However, these marks are not counted in the cumulative score.
 Can I choose when to give a practice test? Each practice test will be open to candidates for a period of 48 hours over a weekend. You can choose whatever time is convenient within this 48-hour slot.
 How many Presentations will need to be uploaded as part of the programme? The Presentation upload will need to be done twice during the reading phase.
 Is there a prescribed format to follow for the Presentations? A format will be made available on the website at the beginning of the reading phase of the programme.
