Introduction

JAM 2020 Entrance Exam will be conducted by the IIT Kanpur. JAM is a national level examination organized to offer admission into M.Sc. (four semesters), M.Sc. Ph.D., and M.Sc. PhD dual degree etc. programmes at IITs. The admission is offered to the Indian nationals as well as foreign national candidates.

JAM 2020 Official Notification has been released on 9th August 2019. IIT JAM 2020 Application Form will be released on 5th September 2019. The JAM 2020 examination is decided to be organized on 9th February 2020.

JAM 2020 Eligibility

The candidates who qualify in JAM 2020 shall have to fulfil the following Eligibility Requirements (ER) for admissions to IITs.

 

  • All candidates admitted through JAM should have a Bachelor’s degree.

 

  • In the qualifying degree, the aggregate marks or CGPA/ CPI without rounding-off (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) should be at least 55% or 5.5 out of 10 for General/ OBC (NCL)/ EWS category candidates and 50% or 5.0 out of 10 for SC/ ST and PwD category candidates.

 

If CGPA/CPI is on a different scale, it would be linearly mapped to a scale on 10.



At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. At the time of admission, the admitted candidates may also have to undergo a Physical Fitness test by a medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute. In case a candidate is not found physically fit to pursue his/ her chosen course of study, his/her admission is liable to be cancelled.

  1. It is entirely the responsibility of the Candidate to prove that he/she satisfies the Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) and Eligibility Requirements (ERs) for Admission.
  2. The Admitting Institute has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of a candidate who is found to have been admitted to a course to which he/she is not entitled, being unqualified or ineligible in accordance with the rules and regulations in force.

The process of IIT JAM Application Form 2020 is accomplished through the following steps: 

 

  • Apply for the examination online.

 

  • Upload photograph, signature and other documents like category certificate (if applicable), PwD certificate (if applicable), etc.

 

  • Pay the application fee through any of the electronic payment modes.

 

  • Check the status of the application form: Received, Under scrutiny, Accepted, Defect status, Status after rectification, Rejected with valid reasons, Admit card ready for download, etc.

 

  • Download Admit Card.

 

  • View answers, marks and JAM score.

 

  • Download JAM scorecard.

 

  • Submission of application for Admission.

  • An application once submitted CAN NOT be changed/rectified. Therefore, before submitting the JAM 2020 application, please ensure that all the details and all the necessary supporting documents are filled/uploaded and there is NO ERROR.

 

  • Please also ensure to pay the application fee as per the gender/category and test paper option. If the fee paid is NOT as per the Gender and Category and the number of Test Paper(s) entered in the Application Form, then the filled in form will be rejected without any intimation to the candidate.

 

  • Multiple applicatiions submitted by a candidate are liable for rejection. Hence, DO NOT submit multiple application forms. After submitting an application, if a candidate decides to appear in other test paper or to change test paper(s), he/she can ADD THE ADDITIONAL TEST PAPER or can change the TEST PAPER(S) before the closing date in the earlier submitted application form. In such cases, the candidate has to pay an additional fee online before the closing date.

 

  • The status of an application will be updated after the scrutiny of the application.
 
  • The status of an application can be checked at any point of time by logging in JOAPS.
 
  • Candidates who have wrongly entered the Category or Gender will be allowed to change the Category or Gender on the JOAPS website with an additional fee. All such candidates are required to pay the additional fee ONLINE only, on or before October 21, 2019.

JAM 2020 Marking Scheme

Section A

Out of a total of 30 questions, 10 questions are of one mark each and 20 questions are of two marks each. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for each question (that holds one mark weightage) answered incorrectly. Also, 2/3 marks are deducted for each incorrect question which carries two marks weightage. There is no negative marking for any question left unanswered.

Section B

Each correct answer in this section is awarded two marks. There is no negative marking in this section.

Section C

Out of the total 20 questions, first 10 questions are of one mark each and other 10 questions are of two marks each. There is no negative marking in this section as well.

  • On the exam day, candidates should take the admit card and original photo ID proof for verification.
  • Candidates should clean any sort of coating (ink, Mehendi or tattoo) on fingertips as a biometric system of verification will be used
  • For all sorts of rough work, candidates shall have to use the scribble pads, which will be issued by the invigilators.
  • Mobile phones, wristwatch, calculators and other electronic devices should not be carried to the exam hall.

The results (merit lists) is available on March 20, 2020 (Friday). The result will be available on the website: https://joaps.iitk.ac.in.

 

The Score Card (indicating the All India Rank(s) and the mark(s) obtained by the candidate) will be available for download from the JAM 2020 website from April 03, 2020 to July 31, 2020, for qualified candidates.

Procedure to check the result:

 

Step 1: Visit the Official Website of JAM.

 

Step 2: Click on the Applicant Login button present on the Home page of the website. On clicking the link, the portal of JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) will open.

 

Step 3: Enter enrollment/ email ID and JOAPS password.

 

Step 4: Evaluate the arithmetic expression given and put the value in the space provided.

 

Step 5: Click on the Submit button.

Step – 1: Filling of Admission Application Form

 

Candidates applying for admission in various courses first have to fill an application form to participate in JAM counselling. Candidates have to fill the form with accurate details and verify the details before submitting the application form.

 

Steps to fill the JAM Counselling Admission form:

 

  • Visit the Official Website of JAM.

 

  • Click on the appropriate link and enter the login credentials, irrespective of the IISc and IITs where the admission is sought, to fill the admission form.

 

  • After that, provide the requisite details such as choice of programmes in order of preference, academic qualification, aggregate/CGPA, category, etc.

 

  • After filling the programme preference and proceeding to payment.

 

  • The application fee for the JAM 2020 admission form has to be paid online only through using Credit Card/ Debit Card/Net Banking.

 

Note: The application fee will be non-refundable.

 

  • After making the payment and upload the scanned image on the admission website in the prescribed format.

  • Only one admission form can be filled, therefore candidates must be careful while they fill the admission form.

 

  • Candidates belonging to the OBC-NCL category have to submit a valid certificate along with the admission form after the declaration of JAM 2020 Result.

 

  • If found incomplete the admission form of JAM 2020 will not be considered.

 

Step – 2: Accept or Reject Choices

 

  • In this step, candidates have to log in to the official website and make choices from any of the options appearing on the screen. They can opt “Accept and Upgrade”, “Accept and Freeze” or “Reject and Quit” option.

 

  • After choosing the option and booking the seat, candidates have to pay “Seat Booking Fee” through online payment modes using Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking.

 

  • If a candidate chooses to withdraw, then an amount of INR1000/- will be deducted from their Seat Booking Fee and the final amount will be refunded.

 

Step – 3: Reporting to the Allotted Centre

 

  • After seat allotment, candidates have to report at the allotted IITs, NITs, and CFTIs along with all the documents required to be submitted at the time of admission.

 

  • Candidates who fail to accept the admission offer are not considered for the further admission process.

 

Note:

 

  • JAM 2020 Third and final admission list will be prepared if seats still remain vacant.

 

  • Qualified candidates who are not allotted a seat in the 1st and 2nd admission round will remain on the waiting list.

 

  • Anyone who does not accept the acceptance offer from the institute will be removed from the admission process.

  • Only one admission form can be filled therefore candidates must be careful while they fill the admission form.

How do I apply ONLINE?

Go to the link "How to apply?", read the instructions and apply using the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link provided in JAM 2019 website.

Can I use one E-mail address to fill multiple application forms?

Yes. Enter your latest Percentage of Marks/CGPA in the field.

Do I have to send the printout of the application form?

No. You do not have to send the printout of the application form to the Organizing Institute (IIT Kharagpur) or any other JAM zonal Offices. This is to kept with you for records.

When will I receive my admit card?

Admit Card can only be downloaded from the JOAPS website from 7th January 2019. Admit Cards will NOT be sent by post or as an e-mail attachment.

Can I bring a soft copy of the Admit card (in mobile phone/ tablet/ laptop) to gain entry to the examination hall?

No. Hard copy (printed in colour) of the Admit Card should be brought to the examination centre along with at least one original (not photocopied/scanned copy) and valid (not expired) Identity Document (ID), whose details have been entered while filling the application.

How to Check IIT JAM 2020 Result?

Candidates can check their result in online mode. The scorecard will contain scores obtained by the candidate in the entrance test and overall percentile.

How many preferences can be added in the counselling form?

Candidates can add as many preferences as possible in their counselling form. But they need to ensure the ERs and MEQs requirements of chosen institutes.

What should I do after I have accepted and frozen my admission offer and paid the fees?

You will be informed over email and SMS to download your final Admission offer when all "Rounds" of admission are completed. You can take this offer letter along with other supporting documents/ certificates to the Institute that you are admitted to.

When and how do I know whether I have been offered a programme?
First set of offers are likely to be made by 01 June, 2020. Information will be sent by Email/SMS and will be displayed on the online portal. Second and subsequent offers may be made depending on the availability of seats.
