Introduction

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2020 is a National Level entrance examination Organized Once in a year which Offers admissions to Undergraduate and Postgraduate degree programmes. 

 

The common law admission test (CLAT 2020), is an all India common entrance examination. It is conducted on a rotation basis by 19 national law universities (NLUs) of India.

Age limit

  • There will be no upper age limit for UG Programme and PG Programme in CLAT 2020.
UG Programme

  Minimum Percentage of Marks:

  • As regards the minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination), the candidates must have secured:

   

  1. Forty-five per cent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/ OBC/ PWD/ NRI/ PIO/ OCI categories.
  2. Forty Percent (40%) marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.

  Qualifying examination: 

 

  • Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/ April 2020 are also eligible to appear in CLAT-2020 examination.

 

  • However, they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.     

  Results Submission: 

  • The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.
PG Programme 

  Qualification:

  • An LL.B Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty five percent (55%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/ OBC/ PWD/ NRI/ PIO/ OCI categories and Fifty percent (50%) of marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.

  Qualifying Examination: 

  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in April/ May 2020 are also eligible to apply.

Online Mode:

 

  • Application for CLAT-2020 must be done online only. There is no printed application form available.

 

  • Applicants those who are eligible and interested can apply online through the Official Website of Clat Consortium of NLU.

 

Steps to Apply online:

 

1) Online Registration:

 

  • The candidates are first required to register themselves at the CLAT-2020 website by using a personal mobile number and e-mail Id.

 

  • Upon registration, an OTP will be sent to the given mobile number for validation. 

 

2) Login Application:

 

  • Once your mobile number is validated, you can log in using your mobile number and the password you provided at the time of registration.

 

  • Please fill the form carefully. The Name of the candidate and the parents should be spelt correctly in the application as it appears in the Certificates/ Mark sheets/ Identity proof. Any change/alteration found may disqualify your candidature.

 

3) Documents to be uploaded :

          

  • Front-facing passport size recent photograph with plain background.

 

  • Signature of the candidate.

 

  • Category certificate if you are applying under SC/ST/OBC.

 

  • Relevant certificate issued by a competent authority if you are applying if a candidate is P.W.D.

 

  • Relevant certificate issued by a competent authority if you are coming under the BPL category.

 

  • Relevant certificate for your respective State of Domicile. Issued by the revenue department/ taluk office.

 

  • Please note that this upload is optional at the time of application.

 

  • However, you will need to produce this document at the time of admission, if you are claiming reservation under the domicile category.

 

4) Fee payment:

 

  • Application fees can be paid only online.

 

  • Application Fees is non-refundable.

 

  • The cost of previous years' question papers is Rs.500/- (not included in the CLAT-2020 application fee of Rs.4,000/- or Rs.3,500/- as the case may be)

 

  Note: 

 

  • The original certificates/ documents are to be submitted to the allotted University.

 

  • The photograph and signature of the candidate need not be attested while submitting the Online Application Form.

 

  • No hard copy of the filled-in online application form is to be sent to the CLAT Consortium Office.

 

  • All documents/ certificates should be uploaded in pdf format only.

Syllabus

  CLAT Syllabus 2020 - UG Programme
English including comprehension
  • The English section will test the candidate's proficiency in English based on comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be assessed on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein, etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.
General Knowledge and Current Affairs
  • The General knowledge will be evaluated on the general awareness including static general knowledge. Questions on current affairs will test the candidate's on their knowledge of national and international current affairs.
Mathematics
  • This section will test the candidate's knowledge of elementary mathematics, i.e., maths taught up to 10th Class/Standard.
Legal Aptitude
  • This section will test the candidate’s interest in the study of law, research aptitude and problem-solving ability. Questions may include legal propositions (described in the paper), and a set of facts to which the said proposition has to be applied. Some propositions may not be “true” in the real sense, candidates will have to assume the “truth” of these propositions and answer the questions accordingly.
Logical Reasoning
  • The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It may include a variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning will not be tested.

  • Candidates must carry the Admit Card to the examination room. Anyone who fails to do so will be prevented from taking the exam.

 

  • It is advisable to have on hand a copy of the admit card, which can serve as a future reference.

 

  • A candidate must bring his/ her valid Original documents like PAN, Aadhar, or any document issued by Govt with a photo.

 

  • Candidates must reach the exam centre at least 30 minutes before the exam starts.

 

  • Check all the required documents, as indicated above, it would be helpful to check if they have all of them with them before leaving for the exam hall.

 

  • Candidates will not be allowed to carry calculators, mobile phones or any other electronic gadgets in the examination hall.

 

  • Candidates will only be allowed to show proof of identity, admit card,  pencil and eraser.

 

  • Persons carrying unauthorized items in the examination room will not be allowed to appear for CLAT 2020.

CLAT Counselling Process 2020

Counselling Process

  • National Law University Odisha, Cuttack will conduct CLAT 2020 counselling.

 

  • Candidates will be required to attend the counselling of CLAT 2020 in online mode.

 

  • Candidates whose names appear on the CLAT 2020 merit list will receive a call letter to attend CLAT Counselling 2020.

 

  • Candidates are allocated seats for admissions to CLAT 2020 on the basis of the merit/ preference principle.

 

  • This means that admissions to law schools are based on their CLAT results as well as in the order of preference of the colleges (acceptance of CLAT results), as indicated by the candidate in his/ her application form CLAT 2020.

The admission or counselling procedure consists of the following processes:

  • online registration.

 

  • making a choice of NLU.

 

  • allotment of seats in NLUs.

 

  • payment of CLAT Counselling fee.

 

  • upgrading of seats and then reporting to the allotted NLUs.

1.  Publication of 1st indicative list
  • The first indicative list by the university based on merit preference will be published on the CLAT 2020 website.
2. Counselling fee payment and option available to exercise by provisionally selected candidates
  • A specified number of candidates from various categories will be allowed to participate in the CLAT 2020 counselling process against the actual number of seats available with participating NLUs.

 

  • The candidates failing to deposit the requisite counselling fee through the CLAT 2020 website by the specified date will lose their right to be considered for admission under CLAT 2020 and their names will be dropped from the merit list.
3. CLAT 2020 Counselling Fee

Provisionally selected students have to deposit Rs 50,000 as counselling fee.

 

Applicants who are provisionally shortlisted need to deposit the counselling fee and perform the following activities.

 

  Lock: 

 

  • Any candidate who chooses the lock option at the time of the CLAT 2020 counselling confirms his/ her choice of NLU.

 

  • Such an applicant will not be considered for transfer to another unit of NLU if a vacancy occurs at a later stage of the board.

 

 Upgrade:

 

  • Candidates who choose the "Upgrade" option will be considered for any vacancy occurring in the NLUs of their highest choice (upward shift) through a subsequent list of allotments.

 

  • Only the preferences of the candidates indicated in the application form will be modified, depending on the availability of vacancies.

 

  • The office of CLAT 2020 must not go down to the slightest step of the counselling procedure.

 

 Withdrawal:

 

There is an option to withdraw the fee as well in two ways.

 

  • Option 1 – Failing to deposit the requisite fee

 

  • Option 2 – Choosing the option of withdrawal before final seat allotment list i.e. during the fourth round of CLAT Counselling. 
4. Publication of second admission list
  • The CLAT office publishes a second list of candidates who paid their CLAT 2020 counselling fees and reserved their seats in the participating NLUs.

 

  • A second list will be published for the candidates on the waiting list, who are provisionally selected against the abandoned candidates if any.
5. Publication of third admission list

 

  • The CLAT office will publish a third detailed list of allotments of applicants who have paid their consultation fees and reserved their places in the participating NLU units.

 

  • The complete list must include the names of the candidates who paid the CLAT 2020 consultation fee in relation to the first and second Tentative Lists.

Allotment
  • Once the candidates have finally been allocated seats in the participating NLUs, they will have to get closer to the same, with the amount of the balance and the other fees of the course taken for admission.
Documents
  • Candidates must be provided with the original certificates/ documents in original, issued by the competent authority, in support of the various requests made by the candidates during the periods indicated in the CLAT 2020 calendar and complete their admission formalities.

  • Original certificates will be verified by the respective universities at the time of admission.
Requirement
  • Candidates who do not have the required certificates/ documents in the original or who do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be allowed to apply for admission to the participating NLUs.
Categories 
  • Candidates for admission into different categories, specially those belonging to the reserved categories such as SC/ ST/ OBC/ SAP (People with Reduced Mobility)/ DFF/ NRI/ NRI candidates and unqualified applicants who wish to be admitted to the Home category, obtain the relevant and authentic certificates/ documents from the competent authorities and produce them at the time of admission to the relevant UNL.
Report
  • Candidates who do not present themselves at the NLU allotted after the publication of the CLAT 2020 merit list and do not complete the admission formalities according to the CLAT 2020 calendar will automatically lose their application for admission and their total amount. a consulting fee of INR 50,000/ - will be confiscated.

The candidate doesn't need to send any document or CLAT application form to the CLAT office.

 What is the CLAT counselling fee?

Candidates will have to deposit a counselling fee of Rs. 50,000 at the CLAT office.

The counselling fee is not a separate fee but will be adjusted in the admission fees at the time of admission in the allotted NLU.

What is the minimum cut-off score/ sectional cut off for CLAT 2020?

There is no such minimum cut off score/sectional cut off score to qualify CLAT.

However, admissions to NLUs will be offered based on candidates’ performance in the law entrance examination, in the order of merit.

Will I be refunded the CLAT counselling fee, if I don’t want to take admission?

Candidates must note that there shall be no refund of counselling fee after the last date of withdrawal from the admission process, i.e., tentatively in the month June.

Those candidates who have withdrawn their seats up to the last scheduled date will be refunded after deducting Rs. 10,000 from the CLAT counselling fee.

Can I change my NLU choices subsequently?

No, once a candidate has indicated and submitted his/ her choices of NLUs, it’ll be treated as final.
